One of the 992 recently reported rape cases in less than six months in Liberia.

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Gender Ministry says it has refurbished seven Safe Homes for the protection of survivors of rape and other forms of sexual and gender based violence.

Gender Minister, Williametta Saydee-Tarr, has spoken of   plans to build four more safe homes if the National roadmap to curtail SGBV cases is approved by Cabinet and the legislature.

Minister Saydee-Tarr said three additional existing Safe Homes will also be renovated. She said government also intends to construct Safe Homes in all the 15 counties.

Speaking with ELBC Monday, August 31, 2020 the Gender Minister said the Ministry is also proposing the protection of whistle blowers rights, harsher punishments for compromise in rape cases as key points for amendments to rape law.

Minister Saydee-Tarr, however pointed out that people, who falsely accuse other citizens of rape, should also be punished.
