Labor Minister Charles Gibson

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The new Labor Minister, Cllr. Charles Gibson, wants more robust actions taking in addressing challenges facing the Liberian Labor Sector.

Cllr. Gibson said:” His administration will focus on curtailing unrests in the Labor Sector, improving relationships between employees and employers and training for Labor Sector actors.”

Speaking Monday, October 12, 2020, when he finally took over as Labor Minister, Cllr. Gibson said he will work along with partners in improving the Labor Sector by ensuring that employers expand and employ more people, instead of downsizing.

He disclosed that while Government exerts effort in promoting the interest of workers, employees must be sensitive to the constraints of the employers.

The new Labor Minister said the Ministry will ensure that labor unrest is discouraged.

Meanwhile, former Labor Minister Moses Kollie said despite the constraints in the Labor Sector, his two-year stay at the Ministry brought huge success to the Sector.

Mr. Kollie said his administration succeeded in resolving several labor disputes, through team work and social dialogues.

He said that Liberia’s fight against trafficking in persons and child labor is well advanced, through the stringent measures put in place by Government.

He said:” The measures put in place saw Liberia graduating from tier three to tier two on the watch list of trafficking in persons.”

Mr. Kollie commended President George Weah for the confidence reposed in him, and paid tribute to staffers of the Labor Ministry for their cooperation.
