MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has distanced itself from post-election violence taking place in neighboring Cote d’Ivoire.

According to a release from the Ministry of Information, Culture Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) issued Monday, November 2, 2020; Liberia has no involvement in the political affairs of Cote d’Ivoire, and strongly detests any suggestion that runs contrary to its desire of having peace in the sub-region.

The Liberian Government says it strongly backs regional and international efforts aimed at finding a lasting solution to the political situation, and will do nothing to undermine the security of a friendly neighbor, as has been insinuated on social media.

The release also quotes President George Weah as reminding detractors wishing to use the situation in Cote d’Ivoire to score political capital at the expense of Liberia to desist.

Thousands of Ivoirians are seeking refuge in Liberia and other neighboring countries, evoking memories of the 2010 electoral violence in that Country.
