One of Liberia's railways

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The House of Representatives has concurred with the Senate establishing a legal agreement between Liberia and Guinea for the use of the Liberia railroad for exportation.

The House Plenary reached the decision Tuesday, May 4, 2021, following a report by its Joint Committee on Lands, Mines, Energy, Natural Resources and Environment as well as Foreign Affairs.

The agreement is intended to increase productivity and allow Guinea Mining Companies to use Liberia’s railroad to export iron ore through the port of Buchanan.

The Committee said the move is in line with the African Mining Vision and the principles of economic integration adopted at ECOWAS and MRU levels.

It is to promote share use of transport infrastructure as a way of improving mining development.

The Committee noted that the agreement will further strengthen the contribution of the mining sector and related infrastructure in the socio-economic development of the two countries.
