Pres. Weah calls for genuine peace and national unity

PAYNESVILLE CITY, LIBERIA President George Weah has made another clarion call for the attainment of genuine peace and national unity.

President Weah said:” It is only through peace and national unity all developments and policies that engender democratic values can be achieved.”

The Liberian Leader acknowledged the resilience and determination of Liberians, and expressed the hope that Liberians are more prepared to coexist amid their diversity.

President Weah was speaking at the official launch of Liberia’s Bicentennial celebrations on Monday, February 14, 2022, at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville City.

The Liberian Chief Executive said he cherishes the opportunity to serve as President of a Country with a very rich history, promising to build on the legacy of former Presidents and sustain the gains made.

Beyond the celebrations, President Weah called for respect for one another and tolerance for each other’s views.

For her part, former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has called for a collective reflection on the journey of the Country, after the launch of the Liberia’s Bicentennial.

Madam Johnson-Sirleaf said:” Regardless of whatever persuasions, every group of Liberians must have the opportunity to reflect on the Country in order to chart a new course.”

Also speaking, the President of ECOWAS Commission, Jean Claude Kassi Brou, pledged the West African regional bloc‘s commitment to supporting peace and economic stability in the Country.

The ECOWAS Commission President then paid tribute to the Government and people of Liberia, through President Weah, for commemorating the Bicentennial.
