Liberia, Comoros signed strengthen Maritime Security in the ECOWAS Region

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Government and the Comoros signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with a budget of thirty-million United States Dollars, aimed at strengthening maritime security.

The President of the Comoros, Jaoa Rieber de Almelda, signing through a virtual ceremony, said they are aware of the maritime security within the Gulf of Guinea, adding that this is the largest initiative on maritime security in the ECOWAS Region.

Signing on behalf of the Liberian Government, Defense Minister Daniel Ziahkan said:” The provision of inflatable boats is essential to the training of the AFL and navy personnel.”

With the MoU, the Liberian Coast Guards will receive specialized boats, as part of efforts to enhance maritime security in the ECOWAS Region.

This means that Liberia will be the first ECOWAS member state to sign the MoU, and therefore the first in line for the delivery of the boats next year.

The program provides material support to twelve ECOWAS coastal member states, as well as training and legally strengthening to all fifteen member states.
